Composition A

Composition A, Piet Mondrian, 1923, Oil on Canvas, Galleria Nazionale A'rte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome, Italy

Mondrian wanted us to connect his images with our every day lives and struggles and use them to solve problems. Here, jostling for dominance, no single colour seems to reign. Just when you imagine you have settled to focus on the yellow, the blue jumps out. Does this remind you of frustrating conversations you have participated in recently, where a salient point is never allowed to present itself? You feel like saying: let's stick to the point.

And could we assume this is why Mondrian's Composition II remains the world's favourite? Do we recognise we need one voice to take control? Just one reading. Have a go!
